Introduction
We, the founders of the African Child Welfare Foundation (ACWF) Registered Trustees, have established a non-governmental, non-political, non-religious, and non-profit organization committed to alleviating poverty in Tanzanian communities. Our focus is on:
Supporting vulnerable populations, especially Tanzanian children and youth, and mitigating the HIV/AIDS pandemic
Improving socio-economic standards of living
Promoting environmental sustainability
Our foundation strives to enhance the social welfare of vulnerable groups, including disadvantaged children, orphans, youth, widows, the elderly, people living with HIV/AIDS, and persons with disabilities, with the ultimate goal of fostering community economic prosperity. ACWF operates fully in accordance with Tanzanian laws and regulations.
ACWF’s Goal, Mission, and Vision
2.1 Goal
Our goal is to reduce poverty in Tanzanian communities by fostering deliberate leadership from intellectuals at the grassroots level. We aim to address extreme vulnerabilities by supporting initiatives aligned with the Millennium Development Goals, Tanzania’s Vision 2025, Mkukuta II, and similar frameworks. We emphasize practical, innovative solutions to everyday problems, promoting creativity, entrepreneurship, and reducing reliance on foreign technology through the sustainable utilization of local natural, cultural, environmental, and human resources. Our focus is on nurturing a developmental mindset and empowering communities at the grassroots.
2.2 Mission
Our mission is to support grassroots efforts by promoting active social and economic participation.
2.3 Vision
We envision communities that enjoy social and economic prosperity, alongside improved education, health, and social welfare standards for all Tanzanians in the most effective and timely manner.
Article 3: Objectives
3.1 General Objective
ACWF aims to raise awareness of the challenges facing African children, engage intellectuals and the middle class in recognizing these issues, and contribute to solutions within Tanzanian communities. We actively promote HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, environmental sanitation and protection, gender empowerment, and poverty reduction through community participation. We also take a leadership role in advocating for changes to laws and policies that hinder the achievement of our goals.
3.2 Specific Objectives
Aligned with our general objective, ACWF’s specific aims include:
Mitigating health issues such as HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, STIs, and other diseases.
Supporting orphans, vulnerable, and needy children by promoting primary and vocational education to foster self-reliance.
Creating and supporting orphanages as temporary care facilities, while advocating for local fostering and adoption to integrate orphans into stable families.
Facilitating transparent, legal international adoption, fostering, and sponsorship programs, with ongoing verification and follow-up to prevent abuse.
Promoting adoption as a key strategy for addressing orphanhood related to HIV/AIDS and poverty, and advocating for legal reforms to facilitate adoption and fostering, considering the outdated nature of current laws enacted before the HIV/AIDS crisis.
Advocating for the reduction of international barriers to free movement, including the promotion of multiple citizenship to mitigate social challenges related to international adoption.
Supporting economic and sustainable projects for widows, orphans, and people living with HIV/AIDS through microfinance assistance and the future establishment of financial institutions to empower vulnerable groups.
Providing care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS.
Offering legal support to vulnerable groups to protect their civil and human rights.
Establishing voluntary counseling and testing programs to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
Conducting research, academic debates, and professional discussions on issues affecting African children, career guidance for graduates, parenting, family, and environmental conservation.
Enhancing learning environments in public elementary and secondary schools and sponsoring tertiary education for disadvantaged families.
Promoting entrepreneurship and leadership among young graduates from secondary, vocational, and higher education institutions.
Facilitating international student exchange programs, practical training for foreign students, and volunteer placements to foster cultural exchange and international understanding. The foundation plans to establish hostels and homestay programs to support these initiatives and diversify human capital.
Organization
ACWF is governed by a Board of Trustees, which holds the highest authority and may comprise up to ten members. A list of current trustees is available on our website.
Annual General Assembly (AGM):
The AGM convenes annually, bringing together friends, stakeholders, and supporters to discuss organizational matters. Meetings may be held virtually, with resolutions ratified by the majority of trustees. The AGM serves as the “Axis of Good” guiding ACWF’s direction.
Advisory Board:
This independent board includes professionals, government officials, activists, academicians, entrepreneurs, and policymakers who provide non-binding advice to the Board of Trustees.
Committees and Branches:
ACWF operates through executive committees and regional branches that manage administration and project implementation, all regulated by the Board of Trustees as detailed in the constitution.
Office Bearers:
Leadership positions include the President, Co-President, CEO, and Treasurer, supported by program officers, volunteers, and employees. While staff may be employed, the majority of ACWF’s manpower consists of dedicated volunteers.
